Document Collection after Renunciation

At the end of the first visit to High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore to renounce my citizenship, I obtained a pink slip that tells me to collect some documents 3 days later between 2:30pm-4:00pm.

Today is the day!
  1. I reached there at 2:20pm, went to the guard house to get a pass. Just tell the guard that you are collecting your renunciation forms, he will give you the correct pass.
  2. Go to consular section, you will see an officer or an usher in the middle of the waiting area very busy taking inquiries.
  3. Tell him/her you are collecting your renunciation forms and pass him/her your pink slip.
  4. Wait at the waiting area for your name to be called. I waited for 5-10 minutes only.
  5. Once called, verify the documents if they are yours.
    • MY-RN1 form that you previously printed, filled up and submitted.
    • Photocopy birth certificate.
    • An official receipt of your previously paid SGD 10.00 in yellow color.
  6. You will need to pass these documents to Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

    1. Hi Lim, no, I only surrender my latest valid Malaysia passport during the renunciation. So far I've not heard of anyone around me that during renunciation need to submit all the old passports.

    1. Hi Lim,
I'll answer what I can here from memory. The rest, you probably need to read my blog as I cannot remember the detail.
      1. Laminate only the Malaysia birth certificate. Not the Singapore birth certificate if you were born in Singapore.
      2. Yes. Submit the original birth certificate. You will get it back after 3-4 months together with your borang K.
      3. I have not attend the citizenship ceremony, therefore I had not receive my pink IC nor my citizenship certificate yet.
      4. I don't quite understand the rest of your question. Maybe you want to read the rest of my post? At the end of the post has related article.

  4. Hi Kevin,

For the document collection, can my family collect on behalf of me? Or I am the only one who can collect?

    Thank you

    1. Hi Kher Ning,
I am not sure if they allow because all they did was asked me for my NRIC, verify if I am the person in the NRIC, then passed me the documents. That's all.

Perhaps you can try by writing a letter of consent to collect on behalf with the person's name and NRIC in the letter. Let the person bring your NRIC, his/her NRIC and the letter with your signature. Not sure if it will work, but just give it a try since you cannot go. The collection only takes a few minutes, best try to go there yourself.

  5. Hi Kevin,

thanks for writing this blog. This is extremely helpful. Do u know if we need to collect the renunciation letter 3 days later(i.e. based on the date given by them)? Can I collect maybe after 1 week etc?

    thanks much.

    1. Hi Stella,
You mean you want to collect it 7 days later instead of 3 days later? I am not sure but my guess is that it should be fine, since it is only an extra of 4 days.

You won't know how efficient is their filing system, delay too long and it is under some pile of documents somewhere then that would be bad.

  7. Hi Kevin,

Is it a 'must' to print out the Forms before heading down to Malaysia High Commissioner?

    ReplyDelete

    1. hi Duckling,
No. It is not mandatory. The printed out forms is not usable, it serves as a practice to fill up the form and from there copy the values over to the original form. If you think that you won't do any mistake then fill directly onto the original form.

  8. Just to check , is it alright that they only give me the receipt and also the original MY-RN1 form when i go collect the documents on the date itself? i didnt get the photocopy birthcert.

my case might be a bit different since i have gotten spore citizenship before i turn 21, but i think most of the steps i followed yours are the same.

    1. hi,
I'm unsure what you are trying to ask. Walkthrough I've written renounced my Malaysia citizenship successfully during that point of time. Procedures might or might not have changed. So far I had not read of anyone's birth cert lost during renunciation.

  9. Hi Kevin, I just received a letter from ICA reminding me that I will need to submit the final renunciation document to ICA. May I ask what is this 'final renunciation document'? is it 'Boring K' issued by MHC?

    1. Hi Poh Seng, usually ICA do not give you your pink NRIC until you shown them your real borang K and photocopy a copy for them. But I've read from the comments that some obtained their NRIC even before they did that process. So, if you are one of those that has gotten your pink NRIC before submitting your photocopy borang K. You need to do so.

  10. Hi Kevin, I have the same problem. i have received a letter stating that i need to submit the final renunciation. But i remember submitting everything, i have gotten my ic n passport as well. But i do not have my copy of borang K, so i check with high comm and they mentioned they need time to check to see if my borang k is still with them. they say most likely given my case which my renunciation happened in Feb, i should have collected it long ago. If it is really lost, do you have any idea on what do i need to do?

  11. hi Kelvin,
Thanks for sharing, its really helpful info.
May i know take how long to obtained your borang K?
can I assume we will be holding Singapore passport with a temporary IC until we obtain the borang K then receive pink IC.

    1. Hi, mine took 4.5 months. Your assumption is correct for my case, I read comments of others who got their IC without having borang K.

  13. Hi, all. I submitted the renounciation of my Msian citizenship on September 2017. Emailed the MHC in SG and the consular replied that September 2017 batch is still under processing in HQ Putrajaya. Anyone same batch with me who already received the borang K and birth cert from MHC?
